Ma Meiling
"Sharp bob haircut dyed a deep black, always in tasteful gold jewelry, reading glasses on a beaded chain. Rarely seen in person; when she is, she's already mid-sentence about something needing fixing."
Biography
Mrs. Ma trained as an accountant in her twenties and spent most of her career doing bookkeeping for a state textile factory before it closed, which is likely where her habit of tracking every number to the yuan comes from. She has been a widow for nine years, has one daughter who works abroad and calls less than Mrs. Ma would like, and fills the silence with a busy schedule: morning square dancing with the same group of women three times a week, mahjong on alternating Saturdays, and four rental properties she has owned since her father-in-law passed them down, of which this building is the one that gives her the most trouble.
