The Warrior Poet
The club explores the life of Xin Qiji, a literal combat veteran trapped in a civilian bureaucracy. Over twelve lessons, they construct the tense geopolitical reality of the Southern Song Dynasty. They follow Xin from his daring cavalry raid at age twenty-three to his decades of political marginalization. Through masterpieces like 'Po Zhen Zi', 'Qing Yu An', and 'Mo Yu Er', they dissect his creation of the 'Haofang' (Bold and Unconstrained) style, analyzing how a man born for the battlefield channeled his supreme strategic intellect into poetry when his sovereign refused to let him fight.
Xin Qiji's transformation of the Ci form into a vehicle for martial thunder, political fury, and the tragedy of a divided empire.
